We are proud of Valdi!

Some of you know that I am very active in Rotary.  Rotary is a service organization of business professionals that promise high ethical conduct and volunteer service in community and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, and eradicate polio under the motto 'Service Above Self".   Worldwide there are 1.2 million Rotarians in 34,000 clubs.  They tend to be successful women and men who want to give back to society.

In a surprise at last week's meeting, I received the Rotary International Service Above Self award. It is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a Rotarian, and worldwide only 150 Rotarians (out of 1.2 million) were selected to receive this year's award.  In our District of 63 clubs, I am the third such recipient and the St. Paul Rotary club itself is over 100 years old!
Over the last 10 years, I have coordinated many impactful International service projects that serve people in need --- providing clean water, hospital supplies and school equipment in Guyana, Bolivia and Nicaragua. I am so proud to have improved the well being and future prospects for the recipient families.  In Bolivia, our agricultural water reservoir project allowed a second crop that doubled or tripled incomes.  We moved these villagers from $ 1/day to $ 3/day.  In short, this meant moving them from poor to rich. The families are nourished, healthy and thinking about an education for their daughters!
Here are some pictures from South America.  Do I look happy and proud of these Rotary projects?
