Mike and Judy Meagher |
Meet Mike and Judy Meagher. These are the new faces behind the new VSCA magazine & web site.
For 20 years, Mike has been working for the USDA as a food inspector. His wife Judy has been working as a Postmaster for the Post Office for the last 14 years. The Meaghers have two daughters and one son. Daughter Bobbi-Jo is 26 Dawn Marie is 24, and son "Buck" is 20.
Mike was born and raised in Gray Eagle, Minnesota, a small town North and West of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Judy Mike and the kids all still live there today.
Mike says he bought his first sled "Around 9th grade, it was a 1967 Polaris Colt." and he's been hooked on the old sleds ever since. Over the years he's owned lot of sleds, and most of them he has kept his whole life. In about 1996, he started collecting Arctic Cats. Judy and the kids have always been involved with snowmobiling right along with Mike, riding and owning their own sleds. Mike currently owns about 14 Arctic Cat El Tigres, all restored to the condition of being good looking sleds they can still ride. "There not show-winning quality restorations, " said Mike, "but we have a lot of fun riding them every year. "
Last year Mike started vintage racing a 250cc Z, mostly at the SLEDS circuit and at Wolf Lake in Alexandria, Minnesota.
In the summer months, between 1979 and 1985, Mike raced stock cars on a dirt track. When he quit in 1985, he never went to a track again until 2002. He went just one night and the next Saturday he was racing again - and still is.
This year Mike and Judy will be attending more VIntage Snowmobile shows in order to cover them for the magazine. However when time permits this summer he and his daughter Bobbi-Jo will be back at the track racing.
Mike and Judy first took notice of the VSCA magazine when Terry Hoffman bought it about 4 years ago. He quickly became a big fan of the magazine. Mike had heard through the grapevine that Terry may have been letting the magazine go.
Mike and judy thought about the magazine a lot - the loved it and didn't want to see it go away, and they had always had second jobs until a few years ago. But they also are realistic about how much work a magazine would be - did they feel comfortable making that big of a commitment? In the end, they decided it too much fun and decided to take it on.
They are very much looking forward to meeting all the members they can, especially all those people who have been around since the VSCA got started so many years ago.
Oddly enough, Mike and Judy just recently learned that the VSCA was started as a club, even though he's been going to vintage shows since around 1996. The Meagher's focus will be on the magazine, But they do wish to maintain aspects of the club, and is looking forward to gathering comments, ideas and thoughts from club members and subscribers over the next few months.
So now that you've met the Meagher's, feel free to stop by and say hi at any of the shows they will be attending over the next year. Until that time, feel free to contact them with your ideas, comments and stories. They'd love to hear from you.
