The I-94 Rec Club pulls off races dispite poor weather condition.
The weather was warm, the field road was mudding, and the track was wet. With all these set backs the racers still showed up in large numbers. With 517+ entries for the weekend the officials for the S.L.E.D.S. circuit had their hands full running late in the evening on Friday night and a full day on Saturday to complete all the races.

On Jan 21st Saturday the Snowbirds SC will be hosting the first Vintage sanctioned ride for anyone with a sled 1986 or older WITHOUT a state registration or SAM's trail pass on the sled. The only thing that the rider needs is to be a SAM's member for insurance reason. (of course) So if you have a 2001 sled that has a current 05/06 SAM's sticker on it you will only need the pink copy of that sticker with you the day of the rides to prove that you are a SAM's member. Then bring your 1976 (or what ever you have) vintage sled and the pink slip (from your 2001) to these 3 sanctioned rides and enjoy yourself!!! Now if you are not a SAM's member you will be able to join the day of "your" first sanctioned ride event however it is important to get to the sanctioned rides during the time that registration for these event are open. (usually 9 - 11am) Once you become a SAM's member you will eligible to ride on the other sanctioned rides within this 05/06 season. Again this is something new to allow the people that have these old sleds a few days in the year to get them shined up and pull them out of the barns and use them. Now these sanctioned rides have boundaries and if you go outsides these areas you will need a state registration and a SAM's sticker on the vintage sleds. It will be up to the hosting clubs to make sure that they have the trails well marked so the riders don't go outside the boundaries and have any issues. Plus during registration the all riders will receive a map of the ride area for that day.
The 3 sanctioned rides that have been picked are as follows:
Jan 21st - Snowbirds of Spencer - Location 4H camp in Spencer - www.spencersnowbirds.com Andy Holland at 508-485-6553
Feb 5th - Goshen Highlanders - Location Goshen Center (rte 9) - www.sledmass.com or Dave Mollison 413-268-7662
Feb 25th - BLG Snowmobile club - Location Gill Elementary School - www.sledmass.com or Jeff Miller at 413-624-3075 If you don't have a vintage sled, come out anyways and check out some really nice sleds and remember this was what the sled were 30 years ago. Some of these sleds helped to make the trails of today.
The Western Vintage Snowmobile Enthusiasts enjoyed another successful outing over the weekend of September 17 in beautiful Stanley, Idaho USA.
All participants attending the First Annual Vintage Snowmobiles of Idaho Vintage Show and Expo were treated to exciting displays of old and new snowmobile products. Less than favorable weather blew in for the day however; it did not deter a crowd of enthusiastic fans from enjoying the first formal gathering of Vintage Sleds in Idaho.
Quality displays of Vintage Snowmobiles were presented by Jerry Kienbaum, Spokane, WA, Curtis Tate, Salt Lake City, UT, and local participation from Craig Ginder, Gordon Kimble, Perry Hesteness, and the Vintage Snowmobiles of Idaho Club rounded out the field.
Mr. Keinbaum’s beautiful display of his ’65 Polaris Sno Traveler Mountaineer was a real crowd pleaser as well as Craig Ginders ’71 Larson Galaxy which was without question the people’s choice for the weekend. Curtis and Paul Tate proudly displayed their super high quality restorations of Polaris sleds and treated us all to the first showing of their beautifully restored 71 500 John Deere. Special thanks to Woodside Motors Sports, Amzoil, Hinson Motorsports and Benny’s Cat Shop who presented new products for 2006. Thanks also to the Salmon River Snowmobile Club for hosting the food booth, and Mountain Village resort for providing the show site and for offering preferred lodging rates.

Vintage Snowmobiles of Idaho would like to thank all that attended this years event and we look forward to hosting next years gathering in Stanley.

TAKING THIER PLACE IN HISTORY AT THE SNOWMOBILE HALL OF FAME The Snowmobile Hall of Fame (SHOF) will celebrate its 18th annual induction on January 12th, 2006, in Eagle River, Wisconsin, inducting four individuals from the sport who made contributions to snowmobiling truly worthy of recognition in the prestigious Hall. The SHOF operates a year around museum in St. Germain, Wisconsin and are involved in a building expansion at their twenty acre complex located in the heart of snow country in the busy Northwoods tourism region of Wisconsin.
DARCY EWING (p) One of snowmobile oval racing’s most recognizable names and faces, Darcy Ewing of Big Lake, Minnesota, was a fixture on the USSA racing circuit for many years, competing in the many Pro classes that came and went during his long and successful career. Remembered as a friendly and humble driver who was always there for his fellow competitors while still being a fierce competitor on the racetrack with his Gemini Racing machines, Ewing made racing a family endeavor. At the time of his accidental death in 2002, Ewing was recognized as one of the winningest drivers of all time in snowmobile oval racing.
FRANS ROSENQUIST Known as one of the most durable and successful racers of the 70s and 80s, Frans Rosenquist came out of Atwater, Minnesota, to race Ski-Doo, Merc, Sno*Jet, Polaris, Yamaha and Kawasaki during a long 15 year career. Rosenquist was a member of the famous Team Frustration in the late 1970s, a Yamaha factory driver at the dawn of the IFS era and the final winner of the Kawasaki Tournament of Champions in 1981. He was a High-Point Overall Champion in ASA in 1976 and #1 bib in USSA as well as the winner of the famous Adema Cup in 1977.
E.B. (EARLAN) CAMPBELL (p) A natural mechanic and a devoted outdoorsman, Campbell was attracted to the art and science of winter travel as a youth, constructing wind-driven machines beginning in the 1930s. Very likely the first dealer to begin selling Polaris Sno-Travelers, his dealership in Millinocket, Maine, was instrumental in the introduction of snowmobiling in Maine and all across the East. Campbell was a key part of the informal early development team that worked the bugs out of the early designs and he was founder of one of Maine’s earliest snowmobile clubs.
COLEY FINDLAY Snowmobiling has attracted many genuine aficionados in its first half century but none attached themselves to the sport like Findlay. Understanding that snowmobiling is first of all an experience, Findlay set out to ride his snowmobile for an accumulated half-million miles, mostly near his home in Boulder Junction, Wisconsin, and his documented record on the trails places him at the very top in terms of time in the saddle. An avid collector of milestone snowmobiles and a tireless promoter of the sport, Findlay has records certifying his travels – mostly in the company of his wife, Katy - on the snow to a grand total of 450,000 miles. Induction ceremonies are part of the 23rd Annual RIDE WITH THE CHAMPS presented by Modine Hot Dawg Garage Heaters . This day-long celebrity trail ride starts with registration and breakfast at 7:30 am at the Eagle River Inn, Eagle River, WI. After riding the beautiful trails of Northern Wisconsin the groups return to Eagle River for the cocktail and autograph session and the induction banquet. The ride fee is $100 and includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. For information contact the Hall of Fame at 715 542-4488 or check out the web site for detailed information and photos from previous RIDE WITH THE CHAMPS, previous Hall of Fame inductees, other SHOF events, building fund information and museum web site tours go to: www.snowmobilehalloffame.com.
DON'T miss this years Vintage Ride with the Champs - there are some surprises lined up! Last year was more fun then you should be allowed to have with your clothes on.

SWAPAND VINTAGE SLED SHOW
Was hosted by the BYRON SNOW BEARS in Douglas, MN
It was early Saturday morning. The skies were a little cloudy, but the vintage sleds were showing up in good numbers. The swap meet had a good number of swappers all sent up with a lot of nice stuff on hand. From Fury's, to EXT's, to RV's, and all kinds of other parts to be had.
Then it happened, Mother Nature openned up the skies and with a crack of thunder down came the rain. I have heard of it raining cats and dogs before, but I can tell you they would have drowned in this down pour! I mean this storm pounded the show on Saturday and returned early Saturday evening, thunder, lighting all night, heavy down pours well into Sunday. The rest is history! (Watercross anyone)
Not all was lost. Somehow Tom did get the Judging done. The sleds that were there, were some of the finest. See some pictures below. Thanks again Tom for a good time. A special thanks goes to the Byron Snow Bears and the guy running the groomer who pulled my 28 ft trailor out to the road for us.

VSCA UPDATE!
Thanks to all those who have contacted us and helped us out with our data base. Out of 3,150 magazines that were mailed we had approximately 115 who did not receive a magazine. Out of the 115 we had 28 subscribers that had a change of address. Most of the others were mailed a second magazine to the same address and the magazines were received. We are unsure why these magazines didn't make it the first time. We will continue updating our data base, working with the print shop and mailing house to become more efficient with the mailing of our magazine. There will always be a percentage of error with the mailing of each issue. We will continue to try to reduce thse errors to the lowest percentage possible.
Ok, moving on to the September issue. We are busy putting it together right now! If you have any events, classifieds, or hard to find parts for this issue, please get them to us A.S.A.P.! Contact us.
